Old Business
We purchased 100 – 100 number boards from White Birch Printing at a cost of $36.93.
The Turkey Federation will hold their annual youth turkey hunt on April 1st. They are expecting 30-40 people and will be using our building for serving their meals. Jon and Marv will help with set up.
Trails officially close at midnight on March 30. Volunteers will be going out to post closed signs on the trails.
Tim reported that Mark Schroeder is continuing to work with the golf course to develop another trail as a result of the Superior Enbridge expansion project.
We received a letter from the AWSC regarding our failure to participate in their cancer charity fund raiser. All clubs need to respond with information regarding the charities they are supporting.
Various members have received and/or collected brochures of different groomers and tractors available. Tim visited some dealers looking at used groomers and found a 1999 model that is very similar to ours for sale for $37,900. He also report that a dealer in St Germain has demos of groomers the first week of February. If we haven’t replaced ours by then, it may be beneficial to attend. It was decided that a vehicle with tracks would w ork best for our trails due to the hills and curves. A motion was made by Mary, second by Doug to look for a rubber track type vehicle for sale.
Motion by Mark, second by Jon to get our groomer repaired and serviced so that it can be used to trade in on a replacement groomer, or so it is ready for next season if a replacement vehicle has not been found. Estimated cost is $100,000-$110,000 for a new groomer, including a drag, less the estimated trade in value of $40,000 for the groomer we currently have.
New Business
Tim reported that the AWSC if forming a committee to develop a uniform trail reporting system to be used throughout the state. He also reported that the legislature is still considering snowmobile fines to be attached to driver’s licenses. There were 25 snowmobile related deaths this season. Safety certificates are required to be carried by all riders that have them, regardless of age. There were 96 students that participated in safety classes, however only 6 of them were members of a club. The AWSC has a new president and vice president, Bill Schumann and Doug Johnson, respectively.
The Tour of Business agenda was reviewed and approved on a Tim/Mark motion. It will be held on April 26. The next club meeting will be held on April 26 at the Antler Inn in conjunction with the tour. Post cards for the event will be mailed within the next couple of weeks.
We received a Thank You note from Crystal Lake Bar for the donation to their annual Easter egg hunt.
We received a letter from the Gordon Good Neighbor Days along with a vendor application if anyone is interested in attending the event as a vendor. It will be held on July 4-6.
Tim requested use of the paddle wheel for a benefit to be held on April 26 at Forest Point.
Jon suggested that, as there is ATC money available, this may be a good time to explore the cost of expanding the building including added improvements such as bathrooms, an additional overhead door to allow drive thru of the groomer, etc. Marv asked everyone to bring their ideas for improvements to the next meeting.
