Old Business
Mark reported that 22 students attended
the December snowmobile safety training class. Three people from Cozy Corner were also present and are now certified instructors.
Charles reported that the proposed agreement with the Town of Wascott for the use of the land where the building is was returned to the
town for their approval, but no response has been received. Charles contacted attorney Johanna R Kirk with Knudson, Torvinen, Jones & Kirk,
S.C., for legal consultation on the matter. Ms. Kirk prepared a proposed agreement and sent it to the Town of Wascott requesting to be on
the agenda at the next town board meeting. Any future questions or discussion will be directed to her.
Ms. Kirk also offered to attend the next town board meeting. She will charge for her time at the meeting only and not travel time.
Town of Wascott Public Works Committee has informed the club that they will be doing all future maintenance at the park including repair
to the serving counter and pavilion.
Park and Ride – Patti is working on a grant with ECE to help cover the cost of graveling the lot.
She is collecting letters of support from various groups. She sent a request to Community Resources
for $500 to help with expenses for the gravel. The club also received a $500 pledge from Dan’s
Feed Bin and a $500 pledge from Superior National Bank designated for gravel for the Park and Ride.
Mark and Chuck have been grooming the trails regularly and do not have any problems or concerns to report.
Mark started working on repairing the drag. A group of members will be attending the groomer show in St Germain this week. They will also
pick up new blades for the drag at an approximate cost of $80.00 each.
Winter raffle tickets are selling well. The ticket holders that Charles made and gave to the businesses seem to be helping with sales.
The club ride that was scheduled for January 23 was cancelled due to rain. A thank note was sent to The Lodge in Siren for allowing us to cancel our reservations.
Debbie has information on the personal property taxes for the club available if anyone would like to review.
Patti has new and improved posters for the winter raffle. They have been distributed to the area business, but there are a few extra if anyone would like to post.
New Business
Jon and Mark have been looking at various groomers and tractors. They posted options on the wall outlining
the description of each unit, current sticker price and potential trade in value of our groomer, if the dealer
accepts trade ins. Some members prefer a tractor as it can be used all year. Many clubs are purchasing tractors
as they can do the same thing a groomer can do and more. Other members prefer a groomer because is it specific to
its operation. There is a question of if the tractor will be able to pull a drag through our trail. Of specific
concern are a couple of steep hills and curves on the trail. There will still
be the need for a grader for ATV trails. Several dealers have offered to bring a tractor out for a test drive.
Jon and Mark will be meeting with the bank next week to discuss a loan for the purchase of a groomer or tractor. The purchase should be discussed with the businesses
that support our club before committing to a loan.
Gordon Parks and Recreation Winterfest is today. The club donated a shirt to their auction.
Tim Johnson reported that we have used our budget for winter grooming and we have about $200 left for summer ATV use.
He has not received the final funding from last year. The bill for snowmobile registration is going to committee at the legislature and it is proposed
to add $3M-$4M to the snowmobile trail fund. Everyone is encouraged to contact your legislator.
AWSC meeting is in March. The club agreed to designate Tim as our delegate to vote.
Mark will be ordering trail signs. Bob asked about getting signs for businesses on the Wild River Trail
by Trail 41. He will contact various businesses to see how many are interested in participating and sharing the cost.
He would also like business signs on Smith Bridge Road and County Road I.
Swords Poker Run is February 27. Members have volunteered to help stamp cards at local businesses. McDermotts
at View Point, Boops at Lookout, Hansens at Crystal Lake Bar, and Youngquists at Chipmunk. Tim and Mick will be doing a 50/50 Raffle
at Soft Pines during the poker run to raise money for road route signs on county roads.
Debbie prepared a volunteer sign up sheet for the meat raffle for the next two months . Wayne and Mary Hughes on Febuary 6, Dick and Jean Boop on February 20, and Mark & Deb Hanson
on March 6. There will not be a meat raffle on March 20.
Patti updated the 4 Seasons Rec Club contribution sheet. She will present it at the next town meeting.
Dick Boop is planning the Tour of Business for sometime in April. He will have a final plan at the next meeting.
It was suggested that we start collecting email addresses so we can improve communication with our members and try to generate more participation.
We should also be trying to increase our membership.
Debbie received the WI Non Stock Corporation Annual Report. She will complete and return.
Thank you to The Lookout for a $100 donation and Kevin & Tracey Herold for $5.00 donation.
A Mark/Patti motion was passed to pay Jon $69.62 for groomer parts and Charles $58.13 for supplies for installing shelves in the building.
Meeting adjourned at 11:30 on a Charles/Jean motion.
